Water & Land Sports in the USVI

St. Croix

Horse lovers can enjoy St. Croix’s rainforest on horseback. Paul and Jill’s Equestrian Stables, Tel. 340/772-2880 or 772-2627, offers rides through this lush area.
J

ust off the coast of the far northeast side of the island lies St. Croix’s other natural treasure: Buck Island. Several outfitters take snorkelers on half and full day trips to this island to swim along the Buck Island Reef National Monument. Here, in about 12 feet of water, snorkelers follow a marked trail for a self-guided tour of this undersea world. Several companies offer tours to this site, including Big Beard’s Adventure Tours, Tel. 340/773-4482, and Mile Mark Watersports Tel. 340/773-2628, a very friendly group of operators who have a store in downtown Christiansted near the Old Scalehouse.

St. John

St. John offers snuba, a unique blend of scuba and snorkeling that allows would-be divers to descend to 20 feet below the surface. Snuba St. John, Tel. 340/693-8063, hooks guests up to a floating air tank so “C” cards are not required. The cost includes equipment, a 1/2-hour orientation, and a one-hour dive.

St. Thomas

Snorkeling is an excellent way to view the marine life in St. Thomas’ waters. Coki Beach is a top spot for many snorkelers; another excellent reef is found at the Doubletree Sapphire Beach Resort, where marine life can be found in waters just two or three feet deep.

At Coral World, you can participate in Snuba and Sea Trek.
