Arriving in St. Martin By Air Air service is available at two airports on
the island: Princess Juliana International Airport on Dutch St. Maarten
and LEsperance Airport in Grand Case on the French side. The French
airport is served only by a few commuter flights from St. Barts and Guadeloupe
and private planes. Most travelers arrive in Dutch Sint Maarten. Travel time to the island from is 2 1/2 hours
from Miami, 3 1/2 from New York, 4 1/2 from Dallas, 5 from Montreal, and
8 hours from Paris. By Boat In Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, the Captain
Hodge Wharf, can accommodate up to 600 passengers an hour (triple the
size of the former tender pier). The wharf includes a Tourist Information Center and is now the disembarkation point for hundreds of thousands of cruise ship passengers annually. The site is named for Captain Arsene Hodge who, beginning in 1938, operated the first government ship delivering mail, passengers, and goods between St. Maarten and Saba, Statia, and St. Kitts.
