Caribbean Resort Meal Plans

Look for a variety of meal plans throughout the Caribbean. Some resorts offer guests a choice of meal plans; others are solely all-inclusive or solely EP. Here's a look at the various plans offered by Caribbean resorts and hotels:

EP, European Plan. This is a room-only plan. You’ve paid for a place to sleep but all meals, drinks, and recreation are extra.

MAP, Modified American Plan. Breakfast and dinner are included. This is a good option for those who plan to be out exploring the island during the day.

AP, American Plan. All meals are included. This is not an all-inclusive plan however, since drinks may or not be included and usually watersports, tips, and any other kind of recreation are not part of the package.

AI, All-Inclusive Plan. This plan is growing in popularity, especially in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico's Riviera Maya. The all-inclusive plan covers all your meals, drinks (those are sometimes restricted to certain brands), some activities (often non-motorized watersports), and some resorts even include tips and transfers in the package.
