Practical Information about the Mexican Caribbean

Best Time of Year to Visit:

mid-December to mid-April (although in Cancun watch out for spring break crowds in March and April! Spring breakers are turned away from many of the all-inclusives along the Riviera Maya so this is not a problem at many resorts in that area.)

Cheapest Time of Year to Visit:

mid-May to mid-June, September to mid-December (The peak months of hurricane season--September and October--are the very cheapest months for a visit.)

Currency:

The Mexican peso is the official currency but US dollars are widely accepted. Major credit cards are accepted at most stores.

Dress:

Both Cancun and Cozumel and very casual; opt for shorts and t-shirts during the day. Evening dress will vary by restaurant.
