Practical Information

Currency. The Dominican peso (RD) is the official currency. The exchange rate fluctuates.

Electricity. 110 volt/60 cycles is used.

Information. For brochures on Dominican Republic attractions, call the Tourist Information Center, Tel. 888/374-6361 in the US; 800/563-1611 in Canada, on weekdays from 8 to 5, eastern standard time.

Language. Spanish is the official language of the Dominican Republic. In tourist areas, English is spoken but away from the hotels it is helpful to have at least a minimal knowledge of Spanish.

Time. Atlantic Standard Time, one hour ahead of Eastern, is used throughout the year. Daylight savings time is not observed.
