Sailing and Yachting on Your Vacation Sailing excursions are another popular way to enjoy the islands. Charters, sunset cruises, rollicking pirate cruises, and more are offered to entertain family vacationers. Do it yourselfers will find plenty of smaller watercrafts:
ocean kayaks, Sunfish, Hobie cats, windsurfers, waverunners, and more.
Many all-inclusive resorts offer use of non-motorized watersports toys,
often with instruction, as part of the all-inclusive package, making a
vacation the perfect time to learn the basics of sailing or windsurfing. Yachting is another favorite sport. While it may sound like the stuff of a vacation for only the rich and famous, many families enjoy yacht excursions in the Caribbean. Yacht companies in the US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Sint Maarten, and others offer both bareboat (where you captain the vessel) and crewed yachts. A crewed yacht is similar to a floating hotel. Your meals will be cooked for you and you can help set the course for the day. The size of the vessels vary, so you can choose to have a yacht just for your family or share with others. A word of caution: yacht holidays are, by their very nature, out on the water just about all the time. Consider these only with a family of swimmers and those who you know won't be hit by seasickness as soon as you pull away from the docks. If you think your family might be a good candidate for a yacht vacation but you don't know, consider a combined land-yacht vacation at a resort like the British Virgin Island's Bitter End Yacht Club; here you can spend part of your vacation at the resort and part on a yacht.
